QUALITY PRE SCHOOL

Pre School Room

A welcome to the pre school room to all our new families and welcome back to our other children and families. We started the year off with long play times outside, depending on the weather and then when more children came we began to revise our room rules and help the new children become familiar with how our room functions. We have added two new rules with the children as the need arose. These are in a book form and the children often read this to themselves or each other. We have been involved in learning about many aspects of Australian Culture through January and this has continued into February as the children are maintaining and interest. You may have heard your child talk about an aspect of this. We are also looking at Australian art and music, with some new songs as well. We have a project folder on this subject that families are welcome to look through. We also have a learning folder about Sally, our Aboriginal persona doll, due to interest. As you know we are also undertaking a project on nature. Thank you for our collection of sticks, we are constructing with these. Also thanks to Tyler’s dad who has been helping prepare these. We will have to wait and see what ideas the children come up with and how they use them. Please take the time to read our displays and documentation. The older group have also revised rules and the children are becoming familiar with listening, questioning, answering, participating, sitting and listening. The older group will cover many activities and topics, some of this is planned and some is spontaneous or following on from the children’s ideas, while simultaneously incorporating elements of literacy and numeracy. To begin the children are learning what a calendar is used for. They are practicing name recognition and writing with a pencil grip. As you know we have extended Australian learning in this group and our college is now on display. The children have had practice already at talking to the group. The younger group have been learning to identify things that are different and things that are similar. The children have been showing a developing knowledge as they bring this to their free play activities. We have also been enhancing our creative language development by beginning to write our own story. This was after we discussed why we don't read the same story everyday. The children have been voicing their opinions as to what the sequence of events should be. The younger group have also been working hard to remember all of the new Pre School room rules.
